Where do I get the boxes?

The boxes can be obtained 3 ways:

  1. Pick it up at our office located at (400 Oyster Point Blvd, Suite 135, South San Francisco CA 94080). You will need to make a deposit of $4.00/box and we will reinburse you $4.00/box after you have receive your bill.
    For example, you need only 5 boxes, you will have to make a deposit payment of 5 x $4.00= $20.00 first. After all you boxes are ready to be shipped and your total bill shows $400, we will deduct $20.00 from it so you only need to pay $400-$20=$380 for your total bill.
    Please call us 3 days before picking up, so we can pre-order the boxes for you in advance.

  2. Buy it online at U-Line, where they will deliver it to your door step. We will reinburse you $3.50/box. Please note that you will need to purchase a minimum of 10 boxes if you get it online.
    For example, if you purchase 10 boxes ($2.70/box), U-Line will charge you a total of 10 x $2.70 + Shipping charges (varies depending on location) to your door. If your total is $40 for your boxes, we will reinburse you $3.50/box, so in essence, you will only need to pay $5 for your boxes. $40 - ($3.50 x 10)= $5.
    Please keep your proof of purchase so we can reinburse you.

  3. Using your own boxes preferably using dimension of 24x20x18. If dimension differs, we will charge accordingly. For example, if your boxes are bigger, we will consider it as 2-3 boxes depending based on our dimension 24x20x18. If your boxes are smaller, we will still count it as 1 box based on our dimension.

Important Note:

  1. Please keep your proof of purchase with you as this is the only way that we are able to reinburse you.
  2. A minimum of 10 boxes in required if purchased online.

What to do after I got the boxes ??

Its time to pack your personal belonglings ! A few things to keep in mind:

  • The maximum weight for one box is 60 lb. Anything in excess will incure an additional charge of $1.50/lb.
  • Try to average out the weight by combining heavy items with lighter ones among your boxes so it will be within the 60 lb limit and also gentler on your back.
  • Make sure the boxes are filled up so it won't compromise the structure of the box when place on top of each other.
  • Seal your boxes tightly.
  • Label your boxes clearly. Make sure your name on the labels match your official documented name. For example, don't put "Sam" on your box label, but instead put your full name "Samuel Johnnathan".

I have packed my belongings in the boxes. What now ?

Are you Port to Door?

If you are, you will need to drop off your boxes at our warehouse located at (1065 Sneath Lane San Bruno, CA 94066). Please call us 2 days before dropping off date. Once your boxes arrive, we will do a final check and make sure everything is in order. Your boxes will be shipped to your designated address.


Are you Door to Door?

If you are, we will arrange our truck to pick up the boxes. Please put all the boxes on the 1st floor as there would be an additional charge of $5.00/box if we need to pick it up anything above the 1st floor. For example, if you have 10 boxes on the 4th floor, our driver will have to carry it from the 4th floor to the truck and you will incure a charge of (10 x $5.00) $50. Pickup time are generally between 1pm-4pm. Please call us 2 days before your pick up date. Once your boxes arrive, we will do a final check and make sure everything is in order. Your boxes will be shipped to your designated address.

  • Boxes can be pick up at our office or bought online at U-Line

  • Boxes of different dimension will be charged accordingly

  • Driver will pickup the boxes from the 1st floor at no additional charge. Anything above the 1st floor will incure an additional cost of $5.00/box, minimum of $30

  • Please label every box

  • Names on the label must be identical to your official documents

Documents Preparation

What Documents should I fill out?

Once you decide to use our services, you need to prepare the following documents and send them back to us:


(a) Copy of Passport - information page
(b) Copy of Freight Ticket- could be E-ticket
(c) Packing List- [instruction]
(d) Commercial Invoice- [instruction]
(e) Shipper's Export Declaration- [instruction]



Box Label

You also need to place the box numbers on your boxes. If you have 10 boxes to ship, then you need to place number from 1 to 10 and your destination address on each box. We have provided the Box Label sheet to download here for your convenience.


Non-allowable Items

Please noted that all items in your boxes should be personal use only and can't be used for the commerical purpose. Hazardous materials which are flammable, corrosive or explosive (such as fireworks, poisons, chemistry sets, and acids), and perishable items (such as frozen food, opened food products, and refrigerated food) are not allowed to be shipped. For safey purposes, we also suggest that personal or sentimental items, such as cash, traveler's check, jewelry, financial documents, and stocks/bonds, should be carried with you rather than being packed in your boxes.


Fragile and Special Items

If your item is fragile or need special care when moving, please notify us in advance. You could put the Fragile Label and/or This Side Up Label on the boxes.

Ocean Transit Time

The ocean transit time for your shippment is about 3 to 4 weeks, depending on the destination. Every Friday 10:00am is our warehouse Cut off time. If we receive your boxes before cut off time, we will arrange the shippment next week. We will let you know when the shipment is on board and when will it arrive at your destination.


Destination Delivery

Once your boxes arrive the destination, our local office will contact you and arrange the home delivery (if you choose "-to Door" Shipment) or pick-up time (if you choose "-to Port" Shipment). Bascially, we deliver your boxes within two days after Customs clearance. If we can't contact you or you are not available for the delivery, we will charge addtional storage fee.






For Indonesians

Please note that going back to Indonesia will require additional paperwork from the Indonesian Embassy. You will need to bring your completed packing list to the Embassy and complete the forms.
  1. Go to Embassy website (www.kjrisfo.net) and fill the form "Keterangan Barang Pindahan"
  2. Bring your orginal Passport
  3. A copy of your Degree or a letter from school proving that you have graduated
  4. There will be a charge of $20 for documentation and processing.

Knowledge Box- Pallet

When we receive your boxes, our warehouse staffs will put your boxes onto the pallet and pack it properly with stretch wrap.




Why is the above step needed? Listed below are the reasons:


Pallet

A pallet is a flat transport structure that supports goods in a stable fashion while being lifted by a forklift or other jacking device.



For your personal boxes, we use the classic wooden pallet with length 48" and width 40". If you want to ship some belongings such as bed or couch, then we will customize a different size of pallet for you. Every pallet could be placed with certain volume of boxes, depending on the size of boxes. If you have a lot of boxes to ship, more then one pallet might be needed.



Stretch Wrap

Stretch Wrap is a highly stretchable plastic film that is used to wrap around items. The elastic recovery keeps the items tightly bound. The purpose of using stretch wrap is to enhance stability of your boxes. Making sure your boxes stay on the pallet is an important consideration in our services.


After wrapping around your boxes, we will measure the dimension and then calculate the actual CBM. That is why we suggested that you use the same size of boxs to avoid the difference between estimated and actual CBM calculation.

@ What type of services does Scanwell provide?

We have 4 types of services listed as below:

(1) Door to Door (DD)We pick up your boxes at your house and deliver to your destination address. For the U.S.A pick-up, please put your boxes at the front door in the first floor. For the destination delivery, we provide in door delivery services.

(2) Door to Port (DP) We pick up your boxes at your house and deliver to your destination address. For the U.S.A pick-up, please put your boxes at the front door in the first floor. Upon your boxes arrival, we will help you do the Customs clearance. After all Customs clearance process, you need to pick up your boxes by yourself at the port.

(3) Port to Door (PD) You send your boxes directly to our warehouse located in San Bruno, California. We will deliver your boxes to your destination address. For the destination delivery, we provide in door delivery services.

(4) Port to Port (PP)You send your boxes directly to our warehouse located in San Bruno, California. Upon your boxes arrival, we will help you do the Customs clearance. After all Customs clearance process, you need to pick up your boxes by yourself at the port.

@ How many boxes should I ship to get the best price?

Ocean shipment has its minimum charges, i.e., at least 1 CBM, Customs, Repacking, Documentation charges,...etc. Therefore, if the volume increases, average cost per box would be lower. In other words, if based on 24' X 20' X 18' size boxes,total price of 1~3 boxes is same as 5~8 boxes.





Therefore, we would recommend that you ship with your friends. More boxes, less average cost per box.




@ Do you provide boxes?

YES !! we do provide boxes. You can come and pick it up from our office ( 400 Oyster Point Suit 135 Blvd, South San Francisco, CA 94080) or get it online from U-Line, whichever is more convient for you. We could accept any size of boxes. However, we strongly recommend that you use the same size boxes, then you could get the estimated price more precisely. If you want to buy boxes, we suggest buying 24'x 20'x 18' size box.
Note:
  • We will reinburse you $4.00/Box if you come and pick it up at our office.
  • We will reinburse you $3.50/Box if you order it yourself online.

@ Would actual price be different from the estimated price?

Yes. The final price would be based on actual CBM measured in our warehouse. That is why we recommend using same size boxes to get the price more precisely.

@ Do I need to do the Customs clearance or the related documentation?

No matter what types of service you chose (DD/DP/PD/PP), we will help you do the Customs clearance and the related documentation.


@ Do I need to pay any additional charges in the destination?

No. You don't need to pay any additional charges in the destination. Our price includes all.


@ How to pay?

We accept cash and check. You could either stop by our office to make a payment or mail the check to us. If you want to write the check, please write the title as Scanwell Logistics (SFO), Inc. and mail the check to our SFO office located at South San Francisco, CA.
